Boys on Film (Film)

by timbaros
2_We Are DancersThe 21st edition of Peccadillo’s ‘Boys on Film’ is now out – and the compilation is called ‘Beautiful Secret.’ It’s a potpourri of short films that touch on various aspects of growing up, and being gay, in any society, in any country, and in any era.

Here is just a taste of the 9 films in the compilation:

In ‘We are Dancers’ it’s 1933 and Berlin is on fire, literally. As Germany reels from a rapidly changing political landscape (Hitler gaining power), outspoken performer Hansi Sturm and his troupe of flamboyant supporters must come to terms with the changing times. Sturm refuses to accept what is happening right outside the doors to his cabaret club – he’s defiant, proud and won’t stand down. Hans Piesbergen is just brilliant as Sturm, powerful and strong. Brilliantly directed by Joe Morris (from Sheffield), ‘We Are Dancers’ was a finalist in the Iris Prize LGBT Festival’s Best British Short award. It was also longlisted for the BIFA Best British Short Award and Shortlisted for the British Short Film Award at the 2020 BAFTAs. If would be great if this short could be made into a full-length film.

L’Homme Jetée’ – Theo is an aimless docker pining for adventure in a remote coastal town. When strapping young sailor Giuseppe washes ashore, Theo musters up the courage to face the waves and escape his dull existence by trying to get into Giuseppe’s gruff crew.

In ‘Clothes & Blow’ American Daniel (a very good David Menkin) lives in London where is like is all about his voiceover work and very messy and awkward Grindr dates. Being over 40, he lives in a flatshare and is horrified when his mother comes to visit. It’s an awkward visit as he never officially came out to her. His sister from Geneva also visits and its a family reunion that David did not want to happen.

Featuring over two hours from the world’s best filmmaking talent from Australia, Canada, Romania, Switzerland, the UK, USA and even the Isle of Wight Boys on Film – Beautiful Secret’ is  now on DVD, Blu-Ray and On Demand.
